Ray Gordon Campbell, 88, of Belton passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 in Belton at a local care center.
Funeral services for Ray will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton with H.K. Ballard officiating. Burial will be held at 2:00 PM at Levita Cemetery in Levita, Texas.
Ray was born on June 28, 1929 in rural Bell County near Killeen, Texas. He was raised in the area graduated and from high school. Mr Campbell worked as a butcher at various grocery stores, but his main vocation was as a minister. Ray received his license to minister on August 18, 1948 at the First Baptist Church in Evant, was ordained by the First Baptist Church in Freeport, Texas and ministered in various capacities at over 90 churches during his lifetime. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Belton. Ray married Emilie (Swearingen) on June 28, 1958 in Freeport, Texas and they were married for almost 58 years before she passed away in 2016.
Ray is survived by daughter Ruth Cook and her husband Richard of Fredricksburg, Virginia, sister Hilda Witherspoon, sister Sarah Carroll, and two grandchildren, Jennifer Saller and her husband Byron and William Cook.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Belton, 506 North Main Street, Belton, Texas, 76513.
A visitation will take place on Friday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton.
