Mrs. Betty Jean Carpenter Harlan, 86, of Belton, TX and previously of Austin, TX died Feb. 22 at home. She was born Aug. 5, 1931, in San Angelo , TX , to Stewart Mahone Carpenter and Julia Ern Burks Carpenter. She married Ray Elby Harlan on Sept. 3, 1955 at Harris Memorial Baptist Church in Austin , TX . They shared 51 loving years together. She worked as a secretary in the Classified Ads Dept. at the Austin American Statesman before becoming a full-time homemaker. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her life was defined by her strong Christian faith. She was a member of First Baptist Belton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband , sister Joy Bell Renick, and brothers, Marvin Lewis Carpenter and Henry Lee Carpenter.
Survivors include three daughters, Vicki Lynn Harlan and Patti Gayle Harlan of Belton; and Lori Harlan Miller of Austin; granddaughter Riley Kay Miller and son-in-law Kermit Alan Miller.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2018 from 2-4 PM at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2:00 PM at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton , TX with Rev. Andy Davis officiating. Burial will follow at North Belton Cemetery .
