Colette Evyon Lewis, 67, passed peacefully with her three sisters by her side at Baylor Scott & White in Temple, Texas on the morning of January 26, 2026. She was a resident of Weston Inn Nursing Home where she lived with her sister, Pamela.
Colette was born in Houston, Texas on August 24, 1958, to Mary Pauline Palm and Clebert Edward Lewis. She was the oldest of four girls and a half-brother. She was born with special needs, but this did not limit her from living a full and happy life. She had such an outgoing personality, never let a health issue hold her back, and made friends easily. Family was very important to her, and she loved to playfully pick on everyone.
It was well known that Colette’s favorite color was green and her sidekick was her sister, Pamela. From the moment Pamela was born, Colette not only took on the role of big sister but stepped into a motherly role as well. Throughout life, their strengths complimented one another. If anyone tried to check on Colette, her consistent response of “me okay” said so much about her personality in those two words. She wanted the care and focus to be on someone else and never wanted anyone to worry about her.
Some of her happiest moments came from being with the love of her life, Willie. Together, they lived a very active life in Dallas, traveling around the city via the bus line and train system. Willie’s family welcomed Colette as one of their own and was a huge support in her daily life. They always held a special place in her heart.
Family could always count on a friendly call from Colette, whether it was to sing the full Happy Birthday song, let you know when the Dallas Cowboys were playing, or to FaceTime and check on her nieces and nephews. At times, we may have been miles apart, but her daily calls will be missed as they always helped us feel connected.
Colette is preceded in death by her long-time partner, Willie Record, and her parents, Mary Pauline Palm-Gibbs and Clebert Edward Lewis.
She is survived by her three sisters, Pamela Lewis, Sheri Strotheide (husband Bill), Celeste Schwertner (husband John), and half-brother John Dickey (wife Jody). Her nieces/nephews: Michael Simpson (wife Viki), Craig Simpson (wife Ca’rin), Brandon Schwertner (wife Skylar), Brittny Frusha (husband Ryan). Her great-nieces/nephews: Wyatt Simpson, Jacy Enos, Noah Enos, Emmaly Simpson, Hannah Simpson, Hunter Simpson, Caden Simpson, Tatum Frusha, Nolan Dickey, and Cameron Dickey.
