Elizabeth Marie Winkler, 72, of Temple, TX, passed away on January 8, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, generosity, and quiet strength that touched everyone who knew her.

Born on September 29, 1953, in Austin, TX, Betty was the daughter of Beatrice and Aubrey Bingham. She grew up in Hearne, where she met the love of her life, Bob, who was then a student at Texas A&M. Their marriage of more than 54 years was built on devotion, humor, and a shared sense of adventure.

Betty poured her heart into her family. She was a loving mother to Angela, Jason (Bethany), Thomas (Laura), and Cheryl (Chris Leite). But it was becoming a grandmother that transformed her in the most delightful way. Her six grandsons—Charlie, Andrew, Sammy, Blake, Logan, and Kaden—and her great- grandson Chandler were her pride and joy. They brought out a playful, spirited side of her, even inspiring her to develop an unexpected love of baseball.

Betty’s love didn’t stop with her immediate family. Over the years, she became “Mom” to a whole crowd of her children’s friends who always seemed to find their way to the Winkler house. She welcomed every one of them with the same open‑armed warmth—feeding them, listening to them, and treating them as if they were her own. That same generosity of spirit extended to her daughters‑in‑law and son‑in‑law, whom she embraced not as additions to the family but as true children of her heart.

She was gifted in ways that made everyday life feel special. An accomplished seamstress from a young age, she sewed her own clothes and delighted in creating matching outfits for herself and her children. Her hands were rarely still—if she wasn’t sewing, she was piecing together quilt tops or working magic in the kitchen. Betty was an extraordinary cook and baker, known far and wide for her pies. She would even meet people in the old Safeway parking lot in Georgetown to sell them, insisting the secret was her homemade crust—“the easiest recipe in the world,” she’d say with a smile.

Betty also had a deep love of travel. She and Bob celebrated their 30th anniversary with a two-week trip to Alaska, a journey she spoke of often. Later, she fulfilled a dream of exploring Europe’s Christmas markets, spending two unforgettable weeks wandering through Germany and neighboring countries, soaking in the lights, music, and traditions she cherished.

For most of her life, Betty possessed an extraordinary memory—sharp, detailed, and often astonishing. Even as chemo began to dim that gift, her warmth, humor, and unwavering love remained untouched. Betty’s life was defined by the care she gave, the beauty she created, and the joy she found in simple moments. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family, friends, and all who were lucky enough to share in her world.
