Floyd David Bumpus, Jr., known to most as “Dave,” passed away Thursday, January 15, 2026. He was born on August 18, 1952, in Little Rock, Arkansas, the son of the late Floyd Bumpus and Wilma Ruth Bishop Bumpus.

Dave graduated from Bryant High School and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

He worked a number of interesting jobs and had numerous talents. He proudly served his country as a U.S. Army tanker in Germany, at the end of the Vietnam era. He later served as a pharmacy technician in both Alaska and Denver. After his almost 15 years in the military, Dave worked as a network administrator for Bell County, Artco-Bell, and the City of Belton. Dave served his community as a HAM radio operator, specializing in Morse code, following in the footsteps of his father Floyd and twin brother Lloyd. He was a storm chaser, assisting weather services in locating storms. He was an interpreter for the deaf at the Belton Church of Christ, where he was an active member for many years. Dave was a volunteer firefighter when Belton had a volunteer department and worked his way up through the ranks to fire chief for the volunteers. He also earned his EMT certification during this time and assisted on medical calls. Dave had a love for many sports, particularly football and boxing. He enjoyed playing fastpitch softball, co-ed softball, racquetball, and golf, among other sports. He was competitive! He refereed select soccer and homeschool volleyball games. Dave loved traveling and spending time with his family and fur babies.

Dave married the love of his life, Bonnie Suzanne Buckner, on June 22, 1991. He is survived by his daughter, Jamie Suzanne Snyder, and son-in-law Scott. He was a proud granddaddy to his grandchildren Holden and Aubrey. He’s also survived by his sister Linda Lake, honorary sister Susan Simmons, brother-in-law Bill Buckner and wife Cindy, and precious nieces and nephews. Dave is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Roxanna Bumpus.

Visitation will be at 10:00 on Saturday, January 24, at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton, Texas. The funeral service will be at 11:00, and burial will be at 2:00PM on Friday, January 30, 2026 at  Bellwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Temple.
