Belton

Gary Lynn Baird, 79, of Belton passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 surrounded by his family. No public services are planned at this time.

Gary lived a life grounded in faith, family, and a deep sense of integrity.  He was the devoted husband of Gaylyn for 58 years and a proud and loving father to their daughter, Kelli.  Kelli and her husband, Roy Whiteside, brought great joy to Gary's life with their daughters, Kirsten Baird Whiteside of Kentucky and Bailey Deanne Hartmann of Belton.  In recent years, Gary was especially delighted to welcome his great-grandson, Brock Norman, a new generation to cherish.

Born in Weslaco, Texas, to Glenn and Dorothy Baird, Gary was raised in Belton alongside his three brothers, Glenn, Rex, and Craig of Belton.  It remained his lifelong home and the place where he built both his career and his family.  He attended Belton High School where he met Gaylyn Drake - the beginning of a partnership that would span nearly six decades.  After high school, he attended Temple Commercial College where he majored in architectural drafting and design.  He used this skill while helping to develop Las Vegas communities with a Temple engineering firm and extensive building design for Mobil Chemical.  Gary's working life reflected both determination and a natural ability with people.  Alongside ranching, he spent several years with Texas International Airlines and then as National Sales Manager with American Desk before going on to found Compliance Consortium Corporation (CCC), a drug and alcohol testing company in Belton, which he led for 27 years.  He was known for his ability to connect with others and his talent for sales, but even more so for his unwavering integrity.  Gary was also known for his quick wit and his love of telling stories - stories that seemed to get better with each telling and made any gathering more lively.

While his professional accomplishments were many, Gary himself would have pointed to his family as his greatest success.  Gaylyn often said that out of all his roles being a husband and a father to his beloved daughter, Kelli, and as Grandad to all three of his precious grandchildren were the ones he valued most and it showed in the steady and concerned way he cared for those he loved.

Gary will be deeply missed by friends and relatives.  His family takes comfort in knowing that after enduring illnesses and pain, he is now at peace, home with his Heavenly Father.  His granddaughter, Bailey, led the family in prayer at Gary's bedside at their home.  A private family memorial will be held at Gary and Gaylyn's ranch, where from a hillside, Gary's ashes will be dedicated to God.
