Herbert R. Fuson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated community member, passed away on August 1, 2025, in Temple, Texas, at the age of 92. Born on December 6, 1932, in Delaware County, Indiana, Herbert lived a life rich in family, service, and passion.
Herbert was educated in the Yorktown Indiana schools, where he laid the educational foundation that would support his varied and fruitful career. He devoted 30 years to farming in Delaware County, demonstrating his commitment to the land and community. In addition to his farming, Herbert owned and drove a bus for 12 years and served as a mail carrier for four years, all while maintaining his responsibilities as a farmer. In 1984, seeking new horizons, he moved to Morgans Point Resort, Texas, where he would continue to serve his community in numerous impactful ways.
A proud veteran, Herbert served four years in the Army as a dental assistant, where he developed a sense of duty and leadership that carried throughout his life. He became a key figure in Morgans Point Resort, serving as the marina manager for six years and contributing to the city council. His passionate involvement in local organizations included the Optimist Club, P.O.S.T, and the Men’s Club of Morgans Point Resort, as well as being a member of the Temple Golf Association, reflecting his love for both golf and fishing.
Herbert’s family was the cornerstone of his life. He married Rhea Annette Howell on June 12, 1955, and together they built a loving home. Herbert is survived by his devoted wife, Annette Howell Fuson; his daughter, Sheree Lynn Bizzell and husband Donald; and his cherished granddaughter, Michelle Charlene Bizzell and niece Shirley Paluch. His legacy will live on through them, as well as through the many lives he touched in his roles as a community leader and friend.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert R. Fuson, Sr. and Iva B. Fuson, and two sisters, Freda Hess and Charline Spencer. His memory will be forever cherished, and he will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Join us in a Celebration of Life Open House to be held on Friday, August 8, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at First United Methodist Church of Belton, 205 E. Third Avenue, Belton Texas. Dossman Funeral Home is helping with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Morgans Point Resort Volunteer Firefighters Association.
