Howard Whitis, 87, of Belton entered heaven on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Creekside Terrace Rehabilitation. His visitation will take place on Monday, May 11, at 6-8 pm. His service will be on Tuesday, May 12, at 10am. Both will take place at Dossman Funeral Home. Kenneth Durham will be officiating.
Mr. Whitis was born near Brookhaven, TX. to Jessie and Marjorie Whitis on October 26, 1938.
He graduated from Belton High School in 1955. On July 11, 1959, he married Jean Ketchum at First Baptist Church in Belton. He retired from Sears after 28 years and then retired from King’s Daughters Hospital after 13 years.
Mr. Whitis enjoyed traveling with his wife. He was a member of The Golden Age Club of Belton, and they made several trips with the club, including three cruises. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Belton. Mr. Whitis visited 45 states and 17 foreign countries. He officiated football and basketball in Central Texas for over 20 years.
Mr. Whitis is survived by two sons, Steven of New Braunfels, and Gary of Temple; two brothers, Dillard and Karolyn Whitis of Belton and Bob Whitis of Belton.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean Whitis; sister, Nelda Shipp and brother-in-law Lynn Shipp; brother, Jack Whitis, sister-in-law, Grace Whitis.
