Services for Hugh Terry Bedsole, age 88, of Temple, will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22nd at St. Luke’s Catholic Church Chapel, with Father John officiating. Interment will follow at St. Luke’s Columbarium at the church.
Mr. Bedsole was born in Birmingham, Alabama, to Hugh Terry Sr. and Martha Bedsole. He married Janice Haire Moore on May 4, 1979, in DeKalb County, Georgia. He was employed by the federal government for most of his adult life and retired in 1995 from Fort Hood, where he served as a program director for OPM for many years. During the 1960s and 1970s, Mr. Bedsole was active in the civil rights movement, working to register people of color to vote—a cause he was deeply passionate about. He was a faithful member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Temple and belonged to the Knights of Columbus.
After a long illness, Mr. Bedsole passed away at home on June 26, 2025. He is survived by his loving wife, Janice Bedsole of Temple; two children, Peter Bedsole and Terry Ann Bedsole, both of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cathy, in 2023. Dossman Funeral Home in Belton, Texas, is entrusted with final arrangements.
