It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jacques Roland Mailhot, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left us on October 22, 2025, at the age of 63. Jacques was born on December 5, 1961, in Shawinigan, Quebec. He lived a life filled with love, laughter, and hockey.

He lived and breathed all things hockey. He had a professional hockey career that spanned over a decade, from 1987 to 2000. His NHL moment came during the 1988–89 season, when he got his chance playing with the Quebec Nordiques, bringing his signature physical style and relentless energy to the ice.

From the Halifax Citadels & the Cape Breton Oilers to the Central Texas Stampede, he was known for his toughness, passion and his role as the enforcer.

Jacques was the cherished son of Jean Paul Mailhot and Claire Houle, who preceded him in death, along with his beloved sister, Nathalie Mailhot.

He is survived by his only daughter, Carrington (Steven) Gilbert, who he loved dearly. Jacques took immense pride in being a grandfather to his grandson, Carter, and his granddaughter, Kinslee, who brought him immeasurable joy and laughter.

Jacques’s legacy extends beyond his immediate family. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Ginette, Sonia, Danielle, Andree, and Paulette, as well as his brother, Robert. Each of them held a special place in his heart, and he valued the bond that they shared as siblings. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and close friends.

Throughout his life, Jacques made countless friends and touched many lives. He had an innate ability to make people feel welcomed and loved.

As we remember Jacques, we will hold onto the memories of his kindness, his true grit, and the strength of his love for family. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. We invite his friends and family to celebrate his life, remembering the moments filled with laughter and stories shared.

At Jacques’ request, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral services.

Rest in peace, Dad. You will forever be loved and missed.
