Jane Carol (J.C.) Smith passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025, in Austin, Texas, at the age of 81.
Born on April 6, 1944, in Louisville, Kentucky, she was the beloved daughter of Royal Duncan “R.D.” and Mildred Graham. A deeply caring and gentle soul, Jane Carol touched the lives of many through her warmth, generosity, and quiet strength.
She attended David Lipscomb College, where she graduated with a degree in teaching. Jane Carol began her career as an elementary school teacher, a role that perfectly matched her patient, nurturing nature. Though she later stepped away from the classroom to raise her children, Jane Carol never lost her love of teaching, and she continued to share her knowledge and care for others in countless ways throughout her life.
Jane Carol was a masterful seamstress and was gifted in all types of needlework; she generously shared her creations with family and friends. Her creativity was matched by a spirit of service—she was active in her church, where she taught Sunday school. An avid volunteer, Jane taught English, prepared food, and shared her sewing skills with those around her when they needed it most. She was also known for her playful, mischievous streak that brought joy and laughter to those around her.
Jane Carol was preceded in death by her parents, R.D. and Mildred Graham. She is survived by her loving husband, Wade Smith; her sons, Todd and Toby; her brother, Robert “Bob” Graham; and her cherished granddaughter, Maisie. Together, they will carry forward her legacy of kindness, creativity, and compassion. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Dossman Funeral Home, 2525 N Main St, Belton, TX 76513.
