Katharine Aleice (Porter) Morehouse — lovingly known as Kathi — passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple after a lengthy illness.
Kathi was born on May 12, 1957, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to the late Howard Robert Porter Sr. and Shirley Montgomery Porter. She spent most of her childhood in Gatesville, where she formed lifelong friendships and deep community ties. In the sixth grade, she received her first piano — a gift that sparked the passion that would define her life.
From an early age, Kathi’s music became her ministry. She traveled with gospel groups even before graduating high school and continued sharing her gift throughout her adult life. She played piano for churches, gospel groups, and school choirs, blessing countless people with her talent. Music brought her joy, and she delighted in bringing that joy to others.
Kathi was truly one of a kind — always smiling, always encouraging, always seeking to brighten the lives of those around her. Her greatest joy, however, came from her eight beloved grandchildren, whom she affectionately called her “grand blessings.”
Kathi was preceded in death by her father, Howard Porter Sr.; sisters Janet Larson and Nancy Butcher; brothers Howard Porter Jr. and Rick Porter; and daughter-in-law Kristie Morehouse. She is survived by her mother, Shirley Porter; her son Kevin Morehouse and his wife Lauren, along with their children Mercy, Annabelle, Selah, and Daniel; and her son Anthony Morehouse and his children Aiden, Noah, Emmalyn, and Ty.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, from 5:30–7:30 PM at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton.
Funeral services will follow on Friday, July 17, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Miller Heights Baptist Church in Belton, with Rev. Jeremy Franks and David Allen officiating. Burial will take place at Greathouse Cemetery near Temple.
