In Loving Memory of Olinda Kay Baird Hale

Olinda Kay Baird Hale was the matriarch of her family. She peacefully passed from this life on November 2, 2026 with loved ones by her side. She led her family by providing an example of deep love, integrity, and a strong work ethic in everything she did. She demonstrated unconditional love as a mother, always offering her children unwavering support, guidance, and a love that never faltered. She showed an earthly example of Christ’s love for His church by being an ever-diligent and faithful wife to her husband for fifty-three years. Her life was a beautiful testimony of devotion, selflessness, and the enduring power of love.

Olinda Kay Baird Hale was born on March 20, 1952, to Olen and Irene Baird in Floydada, Texas. A few years later, her family moved to Hereford, Texas, where she grew up on a farm. Those early years helped shape her character and instilled in her the values of hard work, family, faith, and perseverance.

Olinda attended Hereford Independent School District, where she spent her formative years before continuing her education at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas, following high school graduation. It was there that she met the love of her life, Michael Hale, a preacher boy from Denver City, Texas. Their meeting began a love story rooted in faith and a shared commitment to serving others.

Michael and Olinda married on December 27, 1972, and soon moved to Fort Worth so Michael could attend seminary. While serving their first church in Huckabay, Olinda continued her education at Tarleton State University, where she earned her teaching degree. Teaching soon became more than a profession; it was a calling and a way to make a lasting difference in the lives of countless children. For more than 30 years, she faithfully served as a public school educator, sharing her knowledge, nurturing young minds, and encouraging her students to learn, grow, and reach their full potential. Her dedication to education reflected her deep love for children and her belief in the importance of investing in and shaping future generations.

As a preacher’s wife, Olinda embraced the opportunity to serve the Lord and her church family in many meaningful ways. Though she was naturally shy and humble, she had a quiet strength and a heart full of love for God and others. She never sought recognition or attention for what she did, but instead found joy in serving faithfully behind the scenes. She played the piano to serve the congregation, using her musical talents to accompany worship and help lead others in praise. She also taught children’s choir and Vacation Bible School, sharing her love of music, her faith, and the teachings of the Bible with young hearts. Her gentle spirit, humble nature, and willingness to serve were a reflection of her devotion to God and her desire to nurture the faith of the next generation.

Together, Olinda and Michael were blessed with four children: Randy, Amy, Ryan, and Emily. Raising their family was an important part of their journey, and Olinda’s life as a wife and mother was woven together with her faith, her love for children, and her commitment to serving others. She sought to lead by example, showing grace and compassion when needed, extending understanding and kindness to others, and looking to God for wisdom and guidance through life’s joys and challenges. Her faith helped shape the values she instilled in her family, and her love, strength, and devotion became lasting lessons for her children and the generations that followed.

Olinda’s journey began in Floydada and continued through the farm fields of Hereford, the university classrooms where she pursued her education, the public school classrooms where she taught for more than three decades, and the churches where she served alongside her husband. Throughout her life, she touched others through education, music, ministry, and the love she gave her family.

Olinda Kay Baird Hale leaves behind a legacy shaped by the love she shared, the faith she lived, the students she taught, the children she helped nurture, and the family she cherished. Her years of service as a public school educator and preacher’s wife stand as a testament to a life devoted to serving others. Her life was a ministry of love, faith, and service. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family, her former students, her church family, and all those whose lives she touched.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth Irene Watson Baird and Ernest Olen Baird; her brother, Ernest Baird; her sister, Pearl Tims, and husband, Johnny; and her parents-in-law, Argie and Margie Hale. She is survived by her beloved husband, Michael Hale; her brothers, Ross Baird of Hereford and Lawrence Baird and his wife, LeDon, of Amarillo; and her sister-in-law, Lisa Corbell, and her husband, Royce, of Midland. She leaves behind four children: Randy Hale and his wife, Melinda, of Tucson, Arizona; Amy Hale of Taylor; Ryan Hale and his wife, Andrea, of Goliad; and Emily Denton and her husband, Matt, of Temple. She is also lovingly remembered by a son of her heart, Mark Mills, and his wife, Maida, of Corpus Christi. Her legacy of love lives on through thirteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews, all of whom were blessed to be part of her life.

The Hale family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to Alyssa Ibarra and Sarah and Gabe of Accent Home Health for the compassionate care, kindness, and support they provided during her final weeks. Their dedication and loving care will always be remembered and deeply appreciated.
