Travis William McCormick

Travis William McCormick, 88, of Belton, Texas, passed away surrounded by those who loved him. He was born March 5, 1938, in Rogers, Texas, to W.H. and Jemmie McCormick, and graduated from Rogers High School in 1956.

On February 21, 1957, Travis married Oleta Davis in Rogers, Texas. Together they shared 69 years of marriage, building a life rooted in love, family, loyalty, and devotion to one another.

Travis proudly served 20 years in the United States Air Force and United States Army, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer 3. His military career included photographic and imagery intelligence, counterintelligence, and criminal investigations, with two tours in Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. After his military service, Travis dedicated two decades to Loomis Armored as a guard and driver.

Those who knew Travis will remember a man who was strong, fearless, and never short on personality. He had a mischievous spirit, a quick wit, and a way of teasing that could keep a room laughing. He loved a good joke and was known for the familiar wink that could say exactly what he was thinking without saying a word. He could be stubborn, independent, and strong-willed, but beneath it all was an enormous heart and a deep love for his family.

Travis was the kind of man who showed up when someone needed him, without being asked and without needing a reason. He loved the outdoors, reading, playing cards, and watching college football. He took pride in his family and leaves behind not only memories, but countless stories that will continue to be told for generations.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Oleta; children Donna McCormick, Travis McCormick II, and Robert McCormick; grandchildren Rhiannon, Jeremiah, Terra, Caleb, Clayton, Bethany, and Destiny; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W.H. and Jemmie McCormick; brother James McCormick; and sisters Jeannetta McLean and Rosemary Chatterton.

Travis leaves behind a family who will carry his stories, humor, and the lessons he taught them into the years ahead. His life was measured not only by the years he lived, but by the lives he touched and the memories he leaves behind.

SERVICES

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 26, 2026, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Dossman Funeral Home, followed by interment at 1:00 p.m. at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
